In the Indian squad for the fifth Test match against England, Devdutt Padikkal took the Rajat Patidar position.
Devdutt Padikkal became the 314th player to represent the Indian cricket team in the longest format of the game as the team announced one alteration to the lineup for the 5th Test against England in Dharamsala.
However, skipper Rohit Sharma revealed that Padikkal had replaced Rajat Patidar in the squad. After the toss, the player from Royal Challengers Bangalore had hurt himself during a workout prior to the series’ penultimate game.

Despite Patidar’s lackluster performance in the series thus far, captain Rohit supported the batsman during the pre-test press conference in Dharamsala. Padikkal will take Patidar’s place in the playing XI, though, as Rohit himself disclosed.

Apart from the swap of Patidar and Padikkal, Jasprit Bumrah was recalled to the team to take Akash Deep’s spot.
When Bumrah returns, Akash Deep is left out. After Rajat Patidar was hurt last night, Devdutt Padikkal made his debut, Rohit said. BCCI provided an update on Patidar’s condition. He sustained a severe back injury early on in the morning of the game. He was not included in the test team’s selection.
